I am a disabled artist who lives and breathes comics, storytelling, art, and design. I write, draw, and maintain my webcomic Tamberlane for my day job, but I also do illustration and graphic design on the side. When I'm not scrawling stories, I'm usually dabbling in coding or game design, reading a heckton of books, or watching media analysis on YouTube! I live with my lovely husband and two silly cats in Seattle, Washington.

WHEN DO COMMISSIONS OPEN?

Due to my varied obligations as well as my chronic illness, I open for commissions extremely rarely. When I do, I announce it first to my $50+ patrons on the #cayts-commissions channel on the Foxglove Comics Discord, and then on my Twitter 24 hours later.Every once in a while, I do participate in charity or giveaway streams where I offer sketch commissions. Keep an eye on my Twitter for those announcements.Finally, by far the easiest way to get a commission is to support my Patreon:

  • Patrons paying $50 or above get bi-monthly sketched busts.

  • Patrons paying $100 or more get bi-monthly flat-colored busts OR a previous bust sketch colored.

Telegram Stickers

Telegram sticker packs are made to be used with the Telegram messenger app, or with Discord as stickers. You may use the stickers for any messenger app that allows for the upload of free artwork to replace emojis. You may also use the digital sticker files (within the restrictions of the ToS) as long as the artwork itself isn't edited. You may not put them up for sale or purchase.Clients who commission Telegram Stickers will receive an image of the set as well as each individual sticker file. I will also include a sticker that features my website URL for credit purposes.As the commissioner, you may make a pack or add them to another pack on Telegram as long as my credit sticker is included somewhere in the pack.

A revision is defined as a requested change to a detail or part of the drawing that was not correctly specified in the client's brief. A mistake on the artist's part does not count as a revision and will be fixed for free. Price is per revision.

If it's not included in the options below. If you would like to see Work in Progress shots of the art and be able to give feedback and request changes before they're permanent, this option is for you! Includes 1 Revision for free.

If you are looking for a truly hands-on experience, take a look here. This service includes 5 revisions, WIP approval at each stage of the drawing (sketch, inks, color), a time-lapse video, streaming that works with your schedule, and priority in my queue. Conduct & Process

I will handle all correspondence in a respectful manner, and ask that you do the same! I will reject all business from anyone who is rude to me, my mods, my fans, or anyone in the stream. (See Refunds and Cancellation)PLEASE NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, I generally do not do my commissions as First Come, First Served. I select commissions based on how much I like the ideas and characters, and what sounds most fun to me. Remaining time and detail requirements also play into my choices.Here's the typical process for commissions:

  1. You read the TOS. (Hi! You're here!)

  2. Purchase your requested commission on my Ko-Fi commissions page.

  3. If you are not sure whether your commission request qualifies as complex, please feel free to ask me!

  4. If your commission is rejected, I will message you on Ko-Fi with the reason why and refund your request.

  5. If your commission is part of a stream, I will add you to the queue.

  6. If your commission is a longer term commission, I will email you at the address you provided and note the commission details, the total for your piece including complexity fees, the estimated delivery window, and any questions I have.

  7. If I determine your request incurs complexity fees, I will contact you and invoice you via PayPal. Payment MUST be received before I start your commission.

  8. If your commission came with revisions or WIPs, I will email you at different steps of the commission accordingly.

  9. When your piece is done, the final file(s) will be emailed to you. I will be posting all finished pieces on my Twitter and Patreon. If you wish to be credited, please be sure to leave your usernames in the correct field on the form (if applicable)!

Refunds and Cancellation

I reserve the right to decline or cancel a commission for any reason, without explanation. If I cancel your commission due to poor behavior towards myself or others, you will not receive a refund.You may cancel your commission before I finish it. You will receive a full refund if I have yet to start working on it. Once work is started, partial refunds will be offered based on what has already been finished.

Contact me instead so that I may simply send the money back myself. If a chargeback is filed against me without my consent:

  • You will be forbidden from ever commissioning me in the future.

  • All correspondence between us may be shared with other artists, with PayPal during dispute resolution, and even publicly at my own discretion.

Rights to Use My Work

You are paying me for the time, resources, and tools used for creating your custom artwork, not for the artwork itself or anything it depicts. You may purchase the copyright or any additional rights from me separately at a significantly increased price.

I, the Artist, ...

  • ...may distribute my work freely and at my own discretion.

  • ...may use my work for commercial purposes, unless you purchase those rights from me, in which case I may NOT do so.

  • ...shall NOT claim your characters or ideas as my own.

You, the Client, ...

  • ...may repost my work on the condition that it is posted with credit to me, consisting of my name and a link directing to my webcomic, Tamberlane.

  • ...may crop and resize my work for use as a personal avatar without credit.

  • ...may use my work for badges and emoji on Twitch on the condition that credit is given to me in your channel info.

  • ...may crop and resize my work for use as emoji elsewhere without credit, and may grant others permission to do the same.

  • If you'd like to restrict who may do this, you yourself must enforce it.

I will accept NSFW requests, but I am very picky about what I will take on. All NSFW commissions will be posted under my Zesty Marmalade persona, unless you mark your submission as private.

Bust Commissions

$50 and $100 patrons can request bust commissions every other month. $50 patrons get sketches, while $100 patrons get flat colors.

Can I get my commission as a sticker for Telegram or Discord?
Yes! In fact, I prefer it! Either tier may get their requests in the form of large-format "stickers" for use in programs like Telegram or Discord.

Can I have a previous sketch colored for my commission?
Yes, provided that was a bust sketch you acquired from a previous month of this version of Patreon commissions.

1-Hour Commissions

$250 patrons get to request a 1-hour commission each month. For these commissions, I will set a timer and do as complete a piece as I am able within the time limit. Of course, this may seem very short, but I'm a speedy artist and can do quite a lot in one hour.However, in order to help you make the most of your requests, I offer the following guidelines:

  • No more than 3 characters in a piece.

  • 2 characters is about the maximum I can handle in an hour with a reasonable amount of polish.

  • 3 characters will likely end up flat-colored but not shaded.

  • I will not draw specific backgrounds for these. I MIGHT include a quick background if I have the time, but it's more likely to be a vague sense of place or using CSP drop-in backgrounds.

  • If I feel a piece is a finished before the 1-hour time limit is up, I may use the extra time to do a quick doodle for you in addition.

Varia Rael Yshon Mietmoor -- Vari for short -- is the only princess of a small, remote kingdom in Golmore that is dedicated to the defense of the realm against the coming demon apocalypse. Her father, the king, is the prophesied savior; her mother, the queen, is a healer and devotee to the cause. And Vari herself is the Prophet of Visions, granted the insight the king needs to make his military decisions and keep an eye on the movements of their foes.Here's the thing: the demon apocalypse doesn't exist, and Vari's "visions" are seizures in which her movements are interpreted by their seers. The King is cruel and it's not clear whether he believes in this demon apocalypse or if he's being manipulated behind the scenes. Either way, it doesn't matter, because he's vicious and beat the hell out of Vari any time she put a toe out of line.Enter Ephum
Vari, as their seer, is a vital part of the military machine in this tiny kingdom, and so she needs to be hidden away and jealously protected. When she was a child, the King sought out a bodyguard to assign to her. Presented with options from a slave house where they're trained to be good soldiers, Vari immediately took a shine to a child near her age: a quiet au ra boy named Ephum. The King was dissatisfied with the showing, and Vari, ever the mischievous child, ducks her father to come back and hire Ephum herself.During a fun romp through the city where Ephum is very aware that any misstep or harm that comes to Vari will result in his violent death. But she's never seen anything outside of the castle before, so he takes her to try some cart food and enjoy the sights. On the downside, someone does try to kidnap her for ransom. On the upside, Ephum manages to fight the man off long enough for guards to get there. Between Vari's stubborn insistence and Ephum's obvious skill, the King agreed to take the boy on as her bodyguard.Growing Together
Ephum and Vari became inseparable. The quiet boy and the incorrigible princess were together constantly, and became each other's only friends for years. Ephum had some older friends amongst the guard, but by virtue of being so young, he didn't have anyone else his age to connect to. So they quickly became fast friends, even if Vari does most of the talking.Ephum sees everything that happens to Vari in this castle, and he doesn't know how to process the deep skepticism he feels. Especially once he's old enough to realize they're just seizures, and that her family is callously indifferent to that fact. He becomes increasingly protective of her, but he has a deep-seated instinct of self-preservation: don't speak out, don't fight back, don't make waves.Hydaelyn Calls
One night, Ephum has a dream where Hydaelyn calls him to journey to Eorzea and save the star from encroaching darkness. When he wakes, he hears Vari hit the ground in her neighboring room -- likely a telltale sign of a seizure for her. He races in and cares for her until it passes -- and finds out she, too, had a vision from Hydaelyn. A real vision. And this one supports his: he's destined to be a hero, a protector of the star.They start to make plans to figure out how to escape together, to make this happen.The Timeline Accelerates
Unfortunately, Vari is positive that this fits under her purview of Prophet of Visions and it's vital the King and Queen know so they can take their journey. When she tells them excitedly all about it over breakfast, the monarchs realize then that Ephum and Vari have been possessed by high-tier demons and must be put down. So the Queen tells Vari to go and pack her things for her journey, and when she's alone, kills her while praying. Ephum races to her rescue only to die as well--and snaps back to reality a little bit before Vari even reaches her room, as the Echo vision fades. He convinces her they have to leave, and they flee the kingdom to Eorzea.Eorzea and Scions
Once they make it to Eorzea, they start scratching out their own lives as adventurers, training for whatever Hydaelyn needs. Vari starts training as a Dancer, and Ephum starts training as a paladin as he finds power in his feelings for Vari and his desire to keep her safe.A chance adventuring job saving Sultana Nanamo ul Namo from hungering voidsent leads them to the arms of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. His clear power of the Echo and her support leads Minfillia to recruit them and so they move into the Waking Sands to start a new chapter. Ephum begins running missions with the Scions, while Vari joins Urianger in the research department while she trains in Thavnairian Dancing on the side.Under this paradigm, the two of them finally admit their feelings for each other -- much to the amused relief of the other Scions, since it was painfully clear to anyone but them that they're head over heels for each other.The Beast Emerges
But all is not right with Ephum. Due to his upbringing, Ephum has learned to lock every bad feeling away. Outwardly, he is shy, quiet, kind of a himbo, very sweet, and he takes anything dished out at him without complaint. All of his anger, his protest, his discontent and self-protection, are walled off in his mind, deemed unsafe to feel.One a routine mission to capture a Garlean messenger, Vari and Ephum are captured. For reasons unknown to the heroes, the Garleans performed surgery on them, embedding crystals inside them. This destabilizing of their aether does different things to Ephum and Vari: while the crystals are in Vari, she is more prone to seizures. For Ephum, however, the surgery has permanently thrown his careful walls into chaos and the Beast -- the personification of his inner anger and nasty feelings -- has merged with him, forcing him to wrestle with all those things he locked away. Which also turns him into a werewolf-like beast that gets more monstrous the more he's feeling.And that's all so far...
